A Seafront Plot

This modern villa was built in 2010 by the current owner. He secured one of the last plots in the resort right on the Caribbean Sea after he and his spouse fell in love with the tropical island. A vacation immediately sparked the feeling, "This is where I'd like to wake up in the morning." And amusingly, "We've traveled a lot, and wherever in the world I said that to my wife, for the first time I received no contradiction.

Architecturally Designed

The design of the villa is the work of the friend architect Wim Kitselar, who, with his architectural firm in Geervliet, the Netherlands, specializes in high-quality construction in the private sector. Kitselar created the design, but the couple's desires were the foundation of this unique modern seaside villa. "We quite like space," says the owner with a keen sense of understatement. Generous and luxurious, that's what it ultimately became. But how is it possible that the massive living area of the Caribbean villa also feels cozy? The ingenious play with height differences provides the answer. Where the seating areas are located, the ceiling is about 3 meters high. The open kitchen is both connected and defined by slightly lowering the ceiling, cleverly concealing the light features. The kitchen is equipped with Siemens appliances and a 5-burner induction cooktop. An electric boiler is hidden in the cabinet wall, specifically for hot water in the kitchen. The refrigerator is American-style, complete with an integrated ice maker.

A beautiful play with heights

It all contrasts fantastically with the entrance side of the living area, where the total height of the villa is utilized. A staggering eight meters high, as the current owner mentioned earlier: "We quite like space." The interior also gracefully participates in this play. Various seating areas emphasize intimacy, and the living area seamlessly extends outdoors through the glass sliding doors, where the infinity pool seems to merge directly with the Caribbean Sea. Naturally, it's delightful to daydream with a view that is uniquely enchanting only here, in this spot of Coral Estate.

A Place to Grow Old

A second crucial foundational desire for the villa was that the couple wanted to grow old in this place. "Thankfully, it's not a concern, but suppose we become less mobile, we want to be able to live comfortably." Thus, the master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom is located on the ground floor, and a study is situated that can easily be transformed into a second bedroom, all without thresholds. It's likely that no one would opt for that, as on the upper floor, there are four more bedrooms around a corridor. Of course, each with its own bathroom, and two with a covered balcony. Moreover, on the upper floor, there's an incredible veranda with a sea view, where a daybed could be placed. Perfect for the many tropical nights on Curaçao, waking up to the scent of the sea and the sound of lapping waves.

The Story of Marble

Marble has been chosen for the floors. It's wonderful to experience the cooling effect with bare feet, and honestly, it's practical too. Those who live here naturally want to make the most of their time to enjoy. How the marble came to Curaçao is quite a remarkable story. "A friend of ours had a marble quarry in Portugal. He took us there, and together we picked out a block." The appearance of the veins remained a surprise until the tiles emerged from the block. It turned out amazingly well. The indoor tiles are polished. The outdoor marble, under the veranda and around the pool, is honed. "Naturally, you wouldn't want to slip when you come out of the water with wet feet."

There are air conditioners in all bedrooms, but the current owners haven't needed to use them much. "There's often an east wind on the island," he says. "And we've positioned the house so that the breeze, through the shutters, provides natural cooling."

Amidst Nature

Coral Estate's location in the midst of a natural area is also evident on this plot. "We wanted to let nature be itself on our 7500-square-meter plot. Aside from a lot of greenery, peace, space, and safety are highly valued by the Coral Estate association. So, we have maintained original vegetation everywhere." Except for a strip around the villa's entrance, where palms and mature agave species have been planted. By the way, the couple isn't always on Curaçao. And who takes care of the tropical garden during their absence? He chuckles. "Nature tends to the plants. And we have a gardener who checks in twice a month. A drip system takes care of watering the planters."

Here, you live outside

The couple primarily lives outdoors when they're in Curaçao. "That's also the reason our designer furniture has remained so beautiful," he laughs. And outdoors, that's having breakfast under the veranda or on the wooden deck terrace on their private beach by the sea. Also notable, from this spot, you can directly enter the sea to swim or snorkel and admire the beautiful corals. "It's also a splendid diving spot," he says. "Truly unique, the nature here is still untouched."

Making Your Own Drinking Water?

What isn't visible from this spot is that beneath the terrace and the pool, a lot of space is concealed. For instance, there's a pump house where preparations have been made to turn seawater into drinking water. On the other side of the 'underground' area, the couple currently uses it for storage. "But you could easily turn it into a small apartment." With its 80 square meters, it's spacious enough. By the way, the infinity pool is a saltwater pool. It's delightful to swim in the saline water. "The water is much softer and good for your skin. And no, you don't smell chlorine or taste salt."

The Day Begins...

Life on Coral Estate is wonderful. In the morning, you can pick up fresh bread at the only bakery in the park, have lunch on the beach at Restaurant and Beach Club Karakter, and linger in a beach chair with a cocktail in hand. A massage at the spa and wellness center? It's all possible. The resort is secured 24/7 and accessible through a guarded entrance gate. "It's definitely safe," says the owner. "Even though we feel safe everywhere in Curaçao, living here gives you a reassuring feeling when you occasionally see a patrol car drive by."

Among Like-Minded Individuals

All villas at Coral Estate are privately owned. Some people live there permanently, a mix of owners from all over have their second homes there, and other villas are rented out for the perfect vacation. "The people you meet here are like-minded," says the owner. "You easily make friends and acquaintances, and events are organized that you can participate in if you enjoy that."

The couple only goes outside the resort for groceries. Many amenities can be found in nearby Willemstad, but the large supermarkets are about 15 kilometers away. Then it's back home, to the seaside villa. The car in the garage - with space for two - or under the carport. Groceries in the fridge and plans made for tonight. Are we dining by the pool or meeting friends at the beach club? "Either way, after a few weeks here, we have enough energy to get through the Dutch winter..."

The Extras

It's worth mentioning that the adjacent plot is also being sold by the same owner. He bought the 5500-square-meter property to optimize his privacy. The new owner also has a building obligation, but then they'll have an extra natural garden and private beach...
