Charming villa in Twente for a life of tranquillity, freedom and luxury
Enschede
In the wooded area between Enschede and Hengelo, a decidedly luxurious residential neighbourhood began to take shape from the 1960s. Characterful homes on generous plots, such as this country house on Drienerveldweg. From the (dead-end) street, the friendly residence is hidden from view. But drive through the electronic entrance gate and follow the green driveway. After the bend, you will be surprised by a park-like clearing with a spacious villa and natural pond. An oasis of freedom and peace. This charming family home was fully renovated in 2019 and is essentially move-in ready. Subtle luxury, style, quality, living comfort and sustainability go hand in hand here. Bring together brilliant ideas, top-quality materials and true craftsmanship, and this is the result.
Renovated down to the finest details
Just a few highlights… From the roof to the basement, the house is fully insulated. Solar panels, a heat pump and a solar water heater ensure a modest energy bill. The gas connection has been preserved (just in case…), but everything runs purely on electricity. The electrical system has been completely renewed, as have the water supply and drainage systems. The entire ground floor is equipped with underfloor heating. All interior walls have been plastered. The exterior walls have been finished with a greyish shade of white paint. The zinc-clad dormer has been replaced. Even the natural pond has undergone major maintenance. One principle applies to everything: zero compromises on quality!
Central hall & terrace
Behind the front door (complete with original letterbox) is the entrance, which leads to the central hall. And there it is, visible through the glass wall: the magnificent view of the garden, natural pond and forest edge. The XL natural stone floor tiles in the hall continue onto the adjacent covered terrace, accessible through sliding doors. What a spot! Especially when the deer cautiously emerge from the woods.
From the central hall, you can also access the kitchen-diner, and from there the living room and the garden room. On the opposite side of the hall lies the sleeping wing.
Kitchen-Diner
The spacious and pleasantly bright kitchen-diner is defined by a sleek, modern look—superbly crafted by a custom interior builder. At its heart stands an XL cooking island (with breakfast bar), equipped with a high-end induction hob that includes both an integrated wok burner and built-in extraction. There are also two sinks, both with Quooker taps. A made-to-measure wall unit houses built-in appliances such as fridge/freezer units, a wine cooler, combi-oven and warming drawer. There is more than enough space for a long dining table. The double-sided wood stove in the partition between the kitchen and the living room serves both areas efficiently.
Living Room & Garden Room
In the living room, your gaze is drawn to a large glass façade—like a living painting—offering a stunning view of the natural pond and forest edge. In 2005, the house was extended with a spacious garden room, accessible from the kitchen through double pivoting steel doors. The abundance of (sun-reflective) glass brings the surrounding nature right into the home. This space also features a wood stove. A wide sliding door opens onto a large terrace paved with baked bricks. Just a few steps above garden level, it offers a sweeping view of the garden and woods.
Sleeping & bathing
Back to the central hall. A perfectly integrated oak staircase with subtly lit steps leads to the sleeping wing. Sleek, modern, comfortable and tastefully designed—these qualities continue throughout. The corridor and four spacious bedrooms are fitted with a solid oak plank floor. The two rear-facing bedrooms, with views of the pond and forest edge, include bespoke built-in wardrobes.
At the end of the corridor is the generous main
bedroom with a private balcony and those same breathtaking views. It has its own en-suite bathroom (with underfloor heating and built-in taps), featuring an XL walk-in rain shower, a wide washbasin with vanity unit and a separate toilet room (with wall-hung toilet and bidet spray). There is also a lovely walk-in wardrobe/dressing room.
Bedroom number four also includes custom built-in wardrobes. The sleeping wing additionally features a separate toilet room with a wall-hung toilet, urinal and vanity with washbasin, as well as a second stylish bathroom with a walk-in shower, vanity unit and designer radiator. The luxurious oak doors with soft-close function perfectly match the overall aesthetic.
THE TOP FLOOR
The landing of the attic floor (with built-in storage) is again finished with solid oak planks, just like the spacious bedroom, which features a charming niche with a washbasin and vanity. Further along is an exceptionally large space, fully set up for fitness and wellness. There is plenty of room for exercise equipment and a luxurious combination sauna. If a bathroom is desired here, all connections for electricity, heating, plumbing and drainage are already in place. The original wooden roof boarding and truss construction of the insulated roof have been intentionally left visible. Together with the beautiful natural light, this gives the wellness area a special atmosphere. Finally, this floor includes a colossal attic storage space, still in its original condition.
The basement
The basement, accessible from the central hall, includes a cellar, a study or bedroom (with garden view), a utility room (counter with sink, external door), a cloakroom, a technical room (for washer and dryer, heat pump, solar boiler, water softener), and built-in storage. Bonus: the original built-in refrigerator from the 1960s. There is also a spacious integral garage with two electric roller doors, both remote-controlled, opening onto the driveway.
THE OUTBUILDINGS
Carport & workshop
The generous wooden carport (built in 2020, fits four cars) includes an EV charging point. The adjacent enclosed section serves as a workshop.
Brick outbuilding
The large brick outbuilding is clad in the same wood as the carport. During the renovation months, it was used as a living space with modern amenities. Inside, you’ll find a contemporary kitchen (handleless, black), a bathroom with rain shower and vanity, a separate toilet (black sanitary ware), and a sleeping area on the mezzanine level. The original roof boarding, tongue-and-groove cladding, and wooden beams remain visible. This outbuilding is suitable for various uses: guesthouse, home office, studio. The wide covered area at the rear provides excellent storage. In a lockable cabinet, you’ll find the entire irrigation system, which is app-controlled.
Garden
The 1.5-hectare plot consists of expansive lawns, a pond, a fruit orchard, and woodland (including rhododendrons and beeches). The borders along the house are designed for low maintenance. The current owners maintain the lawn themselves with a ride-on mower. Regular professional maintenance is handled by a gardener. There’s plenty of space to play, a winding forest path and a natural pond perfect for swimming. For children, there’s even a real sandy beach, and for sun lovers, a generous wooden lounge deck.
ACCESSIBILITY & AMENITIES
This is a place to completely unwind, yet still close to the cities of Enschede and Hengelo, offering excellent amenities in sports, culture, education, shopping and dining. The University of Twente, with its superb sports facilities, is just around the corner. A golf course is nearby, and Drienerveldweg is an ideal starting point for cycling, walking and mountain biking. The A1 motorway (towards the Randstad and Germany) is easily accessible.
